I am a planner, thinker, and creative weaver. My process always starts with gathering textures. Crafting rubbings and mark making allow me to explore the subtle details around me, leading to work with a variety of yarns and structures. Intricate observational drawings focus my attention on structures to translate through the woven process. I mix traditional ideas and contemporary processes to produce interesting and innovative pieces. My aesthetic is a refined subtle beauty with meticulous attention to detail. Yarn is how I express emotions as each fibre is so different with its own individualised characteristics. As I use monochromatic colours, the textural quality is incredibly important to evoke a feeling in the material I am making. My inspiration for the collection was dealing with the difficulty of accepting loss and how family bonds can be strained. My handwoven pieces on the loom show the constraints and tension that are dealt with when grieving. The stage of acceptance or relief is shown from the looseness of how yarn can change to fall and drape when the tension is cut off.
