I am a Polish Irish womenswear designer. I find that creating a body of work that champions the value of textile waste and the importance of the circular economy amongst the process of garment production, is of great importance to me. The idea of remaking, repurposing, rethinking and being ethically aware has always driven my initial concepts; that is why deconstruction is a fundamental step in my work. I often begin by stripping the initial idea into its basic components, then starting to layer the form, shape or pattern. I achieve this by juxtaposing rhythm and irregularity, taking the most mundane of things and giving them complexity with the likes of iridescence, consequently, allows my work to encapsulate the body and express the theme of my designs. With sustainability at the core of my design ethos, I approached this project by applying a range of techniques which reduce textile waste in the industry, tackling the issues of microplastics in the oceans and overall wastefulness. I am making pieces that last, but that also make a statement about the issues that in fact lay the foundation for my work as a designer.
