My name is Rebecca Whiteside and I am a final year Textile Art, Design and Fashion student at Ulster University. My designer approach involves revisiting and reinterpreting the most iconic/ inspirational fashion moments of the past few decades. My designs are often informed by my own childhood photographs and those of my parents . Each garment begins with the general silhouette which I develop by adding a variety of different volumes, textures, and finishes, producing an entirely unique profile. I am particularly interested in the transformational possibilities of gathers. I have exhibited this technique throughout my collection, incorporating hardware such as eyelets and drawstrings to give the garments additional detail and depth. My aim is to establish a versatile streetwear brand incorporating a diverse and inclusive range of sizes and colour tones, to empower every young woman. I design with longevity in mind, ensuring that every garment can be interchanged with another to encourage a slow fashion approach and the recycling of garments season after season. I appreciate the possibilities of sportswear and the blurring of lines between athleisure wear and high fashion.
