I collect and gather from nature through photography and found objects. I find beauty in overlooked or discarded objects such as broken shells, eroded rocks, decaying wood, all of which are unspoken objects to me. Forgotten stories heavily influence in my work. Through volunteer work in a care home my major project began to explore our connection with our surroundings. Talking and working with the patients, I listened to the stories of their past. I began looking at the environment of the care homes being so clinical and impersonal, far removed and detached from the life they once had. As the care home was based in a rural community, most people I spoke to had worked the land, so had a strong connection with landscape. This became a prominent theme throughout my project. By examining the transient beauty of our ever-changing world, focusing on time passing by and fading memory, I have created the essence of obscured landscapes through painting and weave in a series of textile artworks. Using woven processes, I combine the subtlety of soft gentle pieces with larger, more dramatic textural pieces. These pieces are atmospheric and are an abstract of time, place and memory.
