Hi, I'm Ashley and I am a women's wear designer who likes to create for the modern women who is slightly daring in the wardrobe department, with functionality & modesty intwined. Within my work I like to bring design elements from eras past into a modern silhouette. When it comes to creating my design ideas, I like to keep the women who inspire me the most in mind. Being a designer, it helps to picture a muse when creating. For this final collection I pulled inspiration from a range of ideas, floral arrangements, design elements of Victorian dress and Can Can girls. Creating modern garments from a restrictive time period merged together with risky design elements created allowed me to keep the modern, daring women in mind. Flowers helped pull together a dark and daring colour scheme and helped inspire silhouettes. Exploring different medias has helped me develop creative skills, such as sketching, whether that was sitting down to do a fire round of abstract drawings or spending time developing new garment ideas, sketching is an essential tool in my design process and has helped me adapt my development ideas for final collections. As a designer making quick sketches has helped to loosen up my lines and get messy with my work to then imagine the final collection in my head, this allows my creative side to add character into my drawings. It gives the collection the personality I imagine it to have. It gives the collection a sense of 'Ashley McCausland' and what I want to design.
